About the Position:

This position is located at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, a Medical Treatment Facility under the Defense Health Agency (DHA).

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician (Pediatrics) to join our team. As a Pediatrician, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care and education in the field of Pediatric and Newborn Medicine. You will work in the Pediatrics Clinic, Inpatient Ward, and Newborn Nursery, evaluating and treating acute and chronically ill patients, arranging admissions and follow-up care as needed.

Duties:
  • Evaluate and treat patients in the Pediatrics Clinic, Inpatient Ward, and Newborn Nursery.
  • Order laboratory tests and x-rays necessary to complete diagnosis, and correlate results obtained with the clinical findings.
  • Prescribe and administer treatment, diet, and other corrective action for ambulatory patients.
  • Provide inpatient care to include the evaluation and admission of patients from the emergency department, other clinics, and outside facilities.
  • Provide oversight to medical students, interns, and residents and other health care providers as assigned on the inpatient ward and newborn nursery.
  • Serve as consultant to nurses on problems related to well childcare and preventive pediatrics.

Requirements:
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Childcare Background Check (CNACI).
  • This position requires a signed statement of understanding consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations, or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position requires an Immunization screening.
  • This position requires applicant to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • This position requires applicant to fulfill credentialing requirements and required to obtain and maintain appropriate relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
  • This position requires a pre-placement medical examination.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • This position will include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 10% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
  • This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree from a school in the United States or Canada.
  • Must have a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Pediatrics) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years.
