Job Title: Patient Care Technician

UPMC Northwest Hospital is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Patient Care Technician to join our Telemetry Unit. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and making a difference in the lives of our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with patient care and daily activities, ensuring the highest level of comfort and safety for our patients.
  • Perform core nursing assistant duties, including blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collection, and Foley care, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Monitor patient status and report changes to the RN, ensuring prompt and effective care.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and other departments, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Assist with patient restraints and provide instruction to patients and families under RN direction, promoting patient safety and well-being.
  • Support unit activities, including call light response, meal tray delivery, and patient transport, ensuring seamless care delivery.
  • Maintain safety and adhere to hospital policies and procedures, upholding the highest standards of patient care.
  • Document patient care in medical records and perform clerical duties as needed, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Engage in department projects and quality initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of patient care and services.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One of the following: 1 year of general healthcare experience, 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed, or Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Limited access to medications for nurse distribution.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire (AHA standards), ACLS preferred, Act 33, Act 34, with renewals.
