Job Summary

Polk County Local Government, NC is seeking a highly skilled Paramedic to join our Emergency Medical Services team. As a Paramedic, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients in a variety of settings, including emergency medical services, hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency medical calls and provide care to patients in accordance with local, regional, and state guidelines.
  • Perform Advanced Life Support (ALS) procedures as per the appropriate Protocols under the direction and supervision of the Medical Control Physician.
  • Deliver patients to the nearest most appropriate medical facility and provide ongoing care and patient advocacy until the responsibility for the patient has been transferred to an appropriate medical professional.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and record keeping for every assignment in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily inspections of the vehicle and equipment, and complete routine maintenance tasks as required.
  • Act as a team leader in emergency and non-emergency situations, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
  • Participate in public relations and community education programs sponsored by Polk County EMS.
  • Perform other duties related to the continuing improvement and development of the local EMS system.
Requirements
  • Currently credentialed as a Paramedic by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS).
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support or equivalent.
  • Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support or equivalent.
  • Current certification in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or equivalent.
  • Current Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Successful pre-employment drug screen.
  • Successful criminal background check.
Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position, including lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.

The ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds with assistance and without difficulty.

The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and the ability to lift and carry 150 pounds up and down two flights of stairs with assistance and without difficulty.

The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

The ability to walk a distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty and without affecting the immediate performance of job-related duties.
