Surgical Instrument Specialist - Weekend Shifts

Employment Status: Full-time

How You Will Contribute to Healthcare Excellence

Orientation: Monday to Thursday for 14 weeks, transitioning to weekend shifts to complete training.

Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment essential for patient care. Duties include cleaning, culturing, testing, and operating various sterilization devices.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas and equipment to uphold required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Execute sterilization of instruments, equipment, linens, and supplies utilizing various sterilizers. Properly load sterilizers and set controls to specified time and temperature based on the materials and requirements of the items being sterilized. Confirm that all sterilization parameters have been met and complete necessary documentation.
  • Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays following prescribed protocols. Label items with identifying information and distribute or store them in designated areas. Report any inability to replace parts or equipment deficiencies to the appropriate team leader or manager.
  • Dispense requested products for both sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies. Prioritize emergency requests and issue necessary supplies and equipment based on knowledge of intended procedures. Assemble and wrap materials, instruments, and supplies according to established aseptic techniques.
  • Disassemble and clean instruments and equipment using approved chemical solutions. Reassemble instruments and equipment post-cleaning and replace any lost or damaged parts.
  • Apply aseptic techniques in daily tasks.
  • Clean and/or safely operate selected equipment within the department.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to activities, including the creation of lot numbers for all sterilized items for tracking and recall purposes.
  • Effectively respond in crisis situations with appropriate actions based on sound judgment and submit necessary communications.

What We Require

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a related field.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: CRCST preferred or actively pursuing certification.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Basic interpersonal skills required. Successful completion of orientation is mandatory. Must be capable of fulfilling fundamental components and essential elements of the position.
