About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Trial Attorney to join our team at Nationwide. As a key member of our Legal team, you will play a critical role in delivering innovative business solutions with excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Litigation Expertise: Demonstrate exceptional trial advocacy skills, independently or as part of a team, to manage cases efficiently and effectively.
  • Case Management: Proactively manage cases, ensuring high-quality work product and collaborating with support staff to achieve efficient case management.
  • Professional Relationships: Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates and clients, communicating effectively and proactively identifying, understanding, and meeting client and internal communication expectations.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their growth and development.
Requirements
  • Academic Credentials: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active License: Maintain an active license in the state in which the position is located.
  • Relevant Experience: More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Litigation Experience: Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Communication Skills: Highly effective and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaboration: Highly collaborative, capable of working with staff and other attorneys on-site and remotely.
  • Negotiation Skills: Significant negotiation skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and legal skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Resourceful, creative problem solver.
  • Computer Skills: Computer savvy with a solid understanding of basic software and use of same.
  • Adaptability: Capable of adapting to changes in the law and changes to technology in the law and court systems.
  • Time Management: Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Decision Making: Decision making ability to set work priorities and make recommendations.
  • Project Management: Ability to initiate, prioritize, and coordinate complex projects and cases.
  • Leadership: Leadership skills used in direct and/or indirect influencing.
Working Conditions
  • Office Environment: Generally, a normal office environment, but depending on the needs of the office the position may be staffed working from home.
  • Travel: Frequent travel.
  • Extended Hours: Occasional overnight travel and extended hours are often necessary to meet the demands of the profession.
