Job Overview

Position Title: Special Education Instructor

Employment Type: At-Will

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Full-Time Equivalent: 1.0

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Annual Reporting Days: 190, 10 months

Compensation Structure: Salary

Evaluation Framework: Utah Teaching Observation Tool / UAPCS APPEL Evaluation UETS 4.0

Starting Salary Range: $40,600 - $62,125, depending on experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
  • Experience: Prior classroom experience preferred
  • Certification: Valid local state teaching certificate in the relevant content area or enrollment in an approved alternative certification program
  • Background Check: Clear FBI background check
  • Language Skills: Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish fluency preferred

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties:

  • Teach students with special needs in designated core subjects.
  • Provide instruction in related elective subjects as per the master schedule.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes learning and engages student interests.
  • Utilize rigorous academic lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments aligned with Athlos' foundational pillars.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction that supports student growth in line with grade-level standards.
  • Assess student academic progress through formative and summative evaluations, maintain accurate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Adapt instruction based on individual student needs and learning styles.

Classroom and School Environment:

  • Demonstrate a strong belief in the potential of all students to learn and belong.
  • Implement school-wide management policies consistently.
  • Create a positive learning atmosphere through established classroom rules and procedures.
  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior.
