Program Overview
">Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) is a leading provider of homeless services in New York City. Our Homeless Outreach team works with unsheltered individuals on the streets and in transportation hubs of Manhattan to motivate them to accept services that will get them off the streets both initially and for the long term.
The BRC Homeless Outreach team builds trust with each individual, breaks down resistance to services, and remains determinedly focused on identifying appropriate and acceptable placements for our clients. The program operates with funding from the NYS Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Amtrak, the East Midtown Partnership and the Downtown Alliance.
About the Role
">This position oversees the day-to-day operations of our Subway Outreach Case Management team and its members. It involves supervising engagement, assessment, placement, and follow-up with chronic or high-profile homeless individuals. The supervisor ensures all clients have up-to-date charts, including psychiatric evaluations, narrative psychosocials, housing plans, and applications.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for evaluating clients for possible removal under the Mental Hygiene Law section 9.58. They will participate in the clinical management team, attend clinical meetings, case conferences, and other meetings to present or discuss clients on their caseload.
In addition, they will complete monthly reports and other reports as needed. This includes providing emergency CPR/First Aid or Overdose Prevention Protocol if necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
">MSW required; LMSW and 9.58 removal designation preferred. Contingent on obtaining LMSW license. Experience working with homeless populations, particularly those who are street/subway homeless and have MICA, is strongly preferred. Supervisory experience is also preferred. A valid driver's license is required. Bilingual skills, including Spanish, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or other languages, are preferred. Basic computer literacy is required, along with CPR training certification or willingness to take a training class.
Benefits
">BRC takes the health, safety, and wellbeing of its employees seriously. Eligible employees receive competitive health insurance, paid sick time benefits, a generous benefits package, tuition assistance, and many training opportunities for career development. Full-time employees receive a minimum of 3 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, and additional paid sick and personal time. A 403(b) pension plan with a matching benefit is provided by BRC. Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are available for healthcare, transit, and childcare expenses.
Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.
