Overview:
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, this role supports the Pharmacist in preparing medication and medical supply orders for patient delivery, while also performing clerical duties within the pharmacy environment.
The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate patient information is maintained on profiles, processing billing, managing inventory, and keeping comprehensive records.
This position involves interaction with patients and the public, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
Key Duties:
Assists the Pharmacist in the precise dispensing of medications and medical supplies to patients.
Accurately fills medication orders, medication cart drawers, and floor stock requests for verification by the Pharmacist.
Replenishes medications in emergency boxes and carts, ensuring they are free of expired items and that stock is rotated regularly.
Handles workflow telephone inquiries and directs messages appropriately.
Prepares IV (intravenous) admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately, adhering to established techniques.
Maintains cleanliness and functionality of the IV hood as required.
Regularly processes and fills the Medication Dispensing Machines.
Monitors inventory levels and assists the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Buyer with inventory management strategies.
Ensures adequate stock for IV fluids.
Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas according to a set schedule, and responds to urgent delivery requests as needed.
Conducts Medication Reconciliation for patients admitted to the facility, documenting any changes to medications in the system accurately.
Assists the Pharmacist in coordinating the supply and inventory system, which includes ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in designated areas.
Safely and accurately repackages bulk medications into unit-dose packages following established procedures, with verification by the Pharmacist.
Accurately enters charges and credits for patient medications.
Generates necessary reports, pick lists, fill batches, and labels as required.
Keeps logs, records, and other essential documentation up to date and files them appropriately.
Addresses concerns and inquiries from patients, physicians, and hospital staff, providing responses within the authority of the Pharmacy Technician role.
Emergency duties may be required, including working in special needs shelters or performing other emergency responsibilities related to threats or disasters, whether man-made or natural.
Qualifications:
Education:
A High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
Preferred six (6) months of relevant experience.
Knowledge of commonly used medical and pharmacy symbols and abbreviations is essential, along with a general understanding of laws and regulations governing the pharmacy profession.
Licensure:
A current, valid State of Florida Pharmacy Technician license is required.
