The High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) at SARA, Inc. is seeking an exceptionally skilled, driven, and creative Power Electronics Engineer to engage in research and development initiatives, facilitating the transition of cutting-edge technologies to the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DoE), and their contractors. This role presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with a team of accomplished engineers, physicists, and technicians on both established and emerging projects.

Our compact team structure fosters an environment where the candidate can contribute meaningfully and engage in multidisciplinary collaboration from the initial concept phase through to operational deployment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in Applied Research, Pulsed Power, and Directed Energy technologies, as well as systems, components, and mission applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and analyze intricate high-power solid-state switching systems and associated devices, including gate-drive and protection circuits.
  • Conduct SPICE, thermodynamic, and electromagnetic modeling and simulations for complex high-power systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and maintain detailed project records.
  • Support technical leadership in the development of Applied Research and Pulsed Power systems, assessing their effectiveness.
  • Assist highly skilled engineering and scientific teams during field testing activities as required.

Essential Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years with a Master's degree in Power Electronics, Pulsed Power, or related fields.
  • Proficiency with data acquisition tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity with data processing software including Excel, MATLAB, and Python.
  • Experience with circuit design software like DipTrace and LTSPICE.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with a Master's degree in Power Electronics for Pulsed Power and Directed Energy applications.
  • Active DoD Top Secret or DoE Q clearance.
  • Experience in pulsed power systems, capacitor chargers, and thermal design.
  • Proficient in using COMSOL Multiphysics for power electronics applications.
