Role Overview: The Private Banker plays a pivotal role in our organization, responsible for:

  • Establishing and nurturing new private banking lending and deposit relationships.
  • Addressing all banking and customized lending requirements identified within CIBC Private Wealth Management, striving to become a trusted advisor through consistent client engagement and relationship development.
  • Managing both new and existing client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional credit and non-credit services, acting as the primary resource for clients' lending and deposit needs.
  • Collaborating with CIBC Private Wealth Management Relationship Managers and team members to secure approvals for new business and modifications to existing arrangements, actively participating in pre-screen and relationship strategy meetings.
  • Identifying product and service opportunities across business units, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for client needs, coordinating presentations, and engaging partners as necessary.
  • Ensuring consistent deal structuring that aligns client needs with appropriate risk mitigation through thorough analysis and credit underwriting, while interfacing with the Underwriting team and Credit Risk Management.
  • Mentoring junior team members and collaborating with peers to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Completing banking portfolio responsibilities, including portfolio reviews, renewals, and collection of essential financial information.
  • Maintaining accurate risk ratings and identifying risks within the assigned portfolio, staying informed about policy changes that may affect portfolio management.
  • Acting as an ambassador for CIBC Private Wealth Management by engaging in local market and industry events to enhance market knowledge and develop new client relationships.
  • Promoting a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the CIBC brand.

Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience in developing and managing lending and deposit relationships with high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or Economics is preferred.
  • Proven experience in applying in-depth credit expertise and understanding investment portfolios and trust solutions.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain private banking relationships with a high level of proficiency.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment, introducing suitable partners and a range of investment, trust, and banking solutions to high net worth individuals, families, and institutions.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess credit risk within specific banking sectors.
  • Capability to conduct necessary analyses and documentation to facilitate credit actions related to the Private Banker's portfolio.
  • Formal credit training is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in financial analysis and modeling.
