Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team at Shaker for ChristianaCare Direct. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support in our Post Anesthesia Care Surgical Observation Unit.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and document accurate clinical assessments of patients on admission and throughout hospital stay according to established standards.
- Assess the need for referrals for discharge planning and identify actual and potential problems for which the patient is at risk.
- Initiate, follow, and modify a nursing plan of care based on assessment and diagnosis, and assess and document patient response to interventions.
- Individualize guiding methods to best suit patient's and their family learning needs and abilities, and revise educational plans to meet needs as they change.
- Encourage patient/family participation in the discharge process and informed decision-making, and coordinate medications safely and optimally.
- Respond optimally to patient crisis situations as outlined in unit-specific standards, and initiate and participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care or practice.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge vital to delivering care to patients 16 years of age and older, and establish and maintain a sound knowledge base of nursing care vital for the specific patient population.
- Apply effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians, and ancillary department staff, and optimally delegate duties and tasks to other nursing staff after assessment of capability and scope of responsibilities.
- Encourage each team member's contributions, improve the professional growth of self by staying current in clinical practice, incorporating research into practice, and participating in teams, committees, and task forces, and represent the patient when the patient cannot represent themselves.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred, with a commitment to acquiring BSN within three years of the date of hire considered with relevant experience.
- At least two years of experience in med/surg required.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware required.
- BLS certification required, with ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required within six months of hire.
