Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant - Post-Acute Care will play a critical role in building and sustaining the financial capacity of the Post-Acute Care service lines at NYC Health + Hospitals. This position will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely recording of accounting transactions, as well as establishing and monitoring accounting practices and processes for the five nursing home facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to Post-Acute Care Expense and Revenue operational transactions
  • Prepare and complete business plans, implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards
  • Meet accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditure, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Track, monitor, and confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses, coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data, and preparing special reports
  • Maintain accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts and defining accounting policies and procedures
  • Foster a proactive and transparent interaction with Post-Acute Care stakeholders through in-depth summary and recommendations at each month-end close
  • Direct on-site support to senior leadership and departments using the Peoplesoft Accounting systems
  • Develop and lead the execution and monitoring of business plans with recommendations on improvements to enhance efficiency through building cohesive teams
  • Address Corporate Accounting inquiries as they arise
  • Support the Budget department with the establishment of facility budgets utilizing the general ledger as a source data set
  • Evaluate and make improvements to accounting processes while ensuring that practices comply with organization accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twenty-four (24) credits in Accounting, including at least one course each in Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting, and Taxation, and four (4) years of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or consultative capacity
  • High School graduation or equivalent and twenty-four (24) credits in Accounting from an accredited college, including one course each in Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting, and Taxation, and eight years (8) of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or consultative capacity
  • Valid New York State C.P.A. license and one year of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience in a supervisory or consultative capacity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in business or health administration
  • Strong accounting acumen with active working knowledge of budget administration, financial forecasting, planning, and analysis
  • Excellent written, oral communication, presentation, and customer service skills
  • Intermediate to advanced use of the MS Office programs, primarily with Excel and Access
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership ability to build cohesive teams
