Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist OR is an allied health professional who is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patient populations ranging from infancy to geriatrics. This role functions under the supervision of a surgeon or registered nurse to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique to combine knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the surgical team to ensure a safe and efficient operating room environment.
  • Assist with preparing patients for surgery, including positioning, draping, and maintaining asepsis.
  • Participate in the maintenance of the operating room environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces.
  • Assist with the setup and operation of surgical equipment, including electrosurgical units, lights, and suction.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, including patient information, surgical site, and any complications or issues that arise during the procedure.

Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
