Job Overview

The Estimator plays a crucial role in executing specialized construction project estimation tasks during the procurement phase. This position focuses on mechanical piping and ventilation systems. The Estimator collaborates with various stakeholders, including members from Preconstruction and Construction teams, as well as suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

The Estimator is accountable for:

  • Supporting project leads as needed.
  • Establishing and maintaining an organized electronic filing system.
  • Gathering all relevant project documentation and updates.
  • Managing bid deliverables and ensuring timely updates.
  • Participating in pre-bid walkthroughs when required.
  • Reviewing project documents and taking detailed notes.
  • Distributing project updates to team members and external parties as necessary.
  • Understanding the scope of work for specific trades and the overall bid proposal.
  • Evaluating project systems and developing effective estimating protocols.
  • Submitting pre-bid Requests for Information (RFIs) and distributing responses.
  • Completing system take-offs in accordance with established processes.
  • Considering value engineering options and assessing associated costs.
  • Reviewing subcontractor, equipment, and material quotes to ensure comprehensive estimates.
  • Creating project general conditions and other necessary estimate summaries.
  • Utilizing the Hill Estimate Summary to formulate accurate estimates.
  • Engaging in bid finalization and review processes.
  • Participating in pre-award sales activities, including project reviews and marketing efforts.
  • Conducting post-bid evaluations and metrics analysis.
  • Assisting in the transition from estimates to construction cost codes and schedules.

  • Maintaining consistency within the Preconstruction Group.
  • Committing to a minimum of 40 hours per week, with potential for additional hours based on workload.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Building Construction Management preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; 10 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
