Responsibilities
The specific duties and responsibilities for each physician role will vary based on the specialty and will be discussed in detail with the hiring manager prior to referral/selection.
The Veterans Health Administration offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
Leave Benefits: 50-55 days of paid time off annually (including annual leave, sick leave, paid Federal holidays, and possible paid absence for continuing medical education).
Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension with 5 years vesting and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by the agency.
Insurance: Access to federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: A full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory is required.
Continuing Medical Education: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
Liability Protection: Free malpractice coverage with tail coverage provided.
Work Schedule: Various work schedules available, which may include rotating call coverage, weekdays, nights, weekends, and/or holidays. The supervisor will determine the actual work schedule based on the needs of the organization.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with agency policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Background/security investigation is required.
- Completion of an online onboarding process is required for selected applicants.
- Pre-employment physical examination must be passed.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all healthcare personnel.
- Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all healthcare personnel.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
