Position Summary for Certified Recovery Support Specialist

COMHAR's Long Term Structured Residences (LTSR) are designed to provide comprehensive residential and intensive treatment support for adults facing various psychiatric and health-related challenges. This role involves engaging with individuals in a supportive environment, focusing on their recovery journey.

The Certified Recovery Support Specialist operates within a recovery-oriented framework, offering personalized counseling and facilitating psychoeducational groups. Utilizing evidence-based practices, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed care, the specialist aids individuals in achieving their recovery objectives. Responsibilities include fostering natural support systems, enhancing social interactions, and managing wellness-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating and implementing educational and support groups, along with program activities.
  • Provide training and support to individuals in developing and applying skills outlined in their recovery plans, emphasizing positive coping strategies.
  • Guide individuals in daily living activities and self-care skills, including personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Support social skill development, vocational training, and community inclusion, focusing on practical life skills such as meal preparation and scheduling.
  • Help residents formulate WRAP plans and explore coping mechanisms for enhanced wellness.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, aiding individuals in progressing towards their recovery goals.
  • Co-facilitate community meetings to promote a peer-supported culture.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments and community activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of individual progress and challenges in clinical records.
  • Assist with meal preparation while adhering to dietary restrictions.
  • Conduct regular checks to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in recovery.
  • Engage in light cleaning and upkeep of the facility.
  • Report any crises or unusual incidents promptly to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Participate in assigned Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all COMHAR policies and procedures.

Qualifications for Certified Recovery Support Specialist:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with at least six months of relevant experience in mental health services.
  • Clearances including PA State Criminal, FBI (if applicable), and Child Abuse.
  • CPR with AED & First Aid certification.
  • Valid driver's license required for mobility within service areas.
  • Physical examination including Hep B screening & TB test.
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist.
