Position Overview
The Welding Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Welding Department by ensuring the preparation and maintenance of educational materials for classes and laboratory sessions.

Key Responsibilities
Within the framework of college policies and procedures, the responsibilities of this position include:
- Assisting in the layout and cutting of materials for class practice
- Fabricating and welding metal components, fixtures, and various tools according to specified sketches and blueprints
- Maintaining and servicing welding lab machinery and equipment
- Ensuring cleanliness and organization of the workshop area
- Performing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor
General Expectations : Employees are expected to execute their assigned duties efficiently and competently, striving for continuous improvement and excellence in all tasks. Additionally, employees should recognize the comprehensive role of the community college and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Compliance with all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines relevant to this position is mandatory.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits during the summer
- Maintenance of a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Completion of at least one year of welding coursework
- Students on an F-1 Visa must maintain full-time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and 6 credits in the summer
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with and ability to adhere to college policies and procedures
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks with attention to detail
- Capability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and make sound decisions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, faculty, students, and the public.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted under general supervision and may involve exposure to various climatic conditions.
Physical Demands: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, and effective communication.
Medium work: Involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; regular walking and standing are required, with occasional sitting. Incumbents may need to kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, stoop, twist, balance, reach, or handle materials.
Cognitive Skills: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
