Job Title: Recreation Therapist - Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health Conditions

Job Summary:
The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering recreation therapy services to individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. This position requires a strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices, as well as the ability to work with diverse populations. The ideal candidate will have experience in planning and administering therapeutic recreation programs, and will be able to modify activities to meet the needs of individuals with varying abilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a variety of recreation services to individuals and groups, including therapeutic activities and games.
  • Review and evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend changes or specialized activities as needed.
  • Attend and participate in treatment plan review sessions, providing input on program participants' participation in recreational activities.
  • Maintain individuals' records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements.
  • Arrange for and provide transportation to meet the needs of the facility and recreational activities.
  • Maintain recreational supplies and equipment, including researching the purchase of new equipment and acting as point person with contractors and suppliers.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of recreation therapy policies and procedures.
  • Provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention as needed.

Requirements:
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field, and one year of experience in planning and administering therapeutic recreation programs. Alternatively, applicants may have a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or Adaptive Physical Education, and one year of experience in a related field. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or licensure as a Creative Arts Therapist may also be required.
