Unit Overview: The 5 West unit caters to a diverse range of patient needs, including Heart Monitoring, Observation, General Medical/Surgical, Oncology/Chemotherapy, Medical Psychiatry, and Palliative/Hospice care. Each patient type presents unique care requirements, and our 39-bed unit is dedicated to crafting individualized care plans aimed at restoring patients to their optimal health.
Collaborative Environment: As part of a cohesive medical team, you will engage in discussions focused on delivering the best patient outcomes. Our RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5 or 1:6, depending on patient acuity, ensuring a supportive and manageable workload.
Specialized Equipment: Familiarity with advanced medical equipment such as wound vacs, PCA pumps, and specialty beds is essential.
This role involves a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover, including wound care and the management of psychiatric patients requiring medical attention.

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) at DMC is an integral member of the Patient Care Services Team, responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of nursing care by the nursing staff. The RN will manage and implement patient care activities for a designated group of patients and their families, utilizing independent judgment and fostering communication and collaboration with all team members, including ancillary and support services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians and healthcare providers.
• Delegate, assess, and evaluate patient care.
• Provide and assign patient care tasks to team members.
• Monitor patient progress and prepare them for discharge.
• Report directly to senior unit management and engage in shared decision-making processes.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
1. Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
2. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
3. Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan.
4. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
