Job Title: Detention OfficerWe are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our detention facility and ensuring the well-being of our inmates.
Key Responsibilities:- Process incoming inmates into custody, completing necessary paperwork and ensuring their personal property is secured.
- Patrol jail areas to maintain order and prevent escape, inspecting cells and confiscating contraband as needed.
- Escort inmates to and from visitations, court appearances, and medical appointments, ensuring their safety and security at all times.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on inmate activity, including meal and snack distribution.
- Respond to medical emergencies and transport inmates to and from medical facilities as needed.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be at least 20 years old and a citizen of the United States.
- Valid NC Driver's License required.
- Certification as a detention officer within the specified timeframe.
- CPR Certification within one year of employment.
