Job Title: Detention Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our detention facility and ensuring the well-being of our inmates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process incoming inmates into custody, completing necessary paperwork and ensuring their personal property is secured.
  • Patrol jail areas to maintain order and prevent escape, inspecting cells and confiscating contraband as needed.
  • Escort inmates to and from visitations, court appearances, and medical appointments, ensuring their safety and security at all times.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on inmate activity, including meal and snack distribution.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and transport inmates to and from medical facilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 20 years old and a citizen of the United States.
  • Valid NC Driver's License required.
  • Certification as a detention officer within the specified timeframe.
  • CPR Certification within one year of employment.
