This position is for a highly skilled IT Specialist (Systems Administration) to join the Army National Guard Units. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the systems and servers throughout the state.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all assigned servers and server resources, analyzing and defining requirements, monitoring capacity and performance, diagnosing and resolving problems, and developing backup and recovery procedures.
- Install and upgrade operating systems and layered software packages, ensuring compatibility with Army standards prior to installation or upgrade.
- Conduct hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with Army and DOD standards and maintain system configurations.
- Monitor and manage the performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability of installed servers and associated server resources.
- Resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems, ensuring server functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
- Provide technical assistance to current and potential users to minimize disruptions of computer operation.
- Test and analyze system malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems.
- MUST possess experience, education, or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles.
- Must have at least 12 months of experience at the lower-level GS-09, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization.
- Must have experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment, coordinating with others outside the organizational unit, and developing project controls.
- Must have experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies, summarizing material, and organizing it in a logical fashion.
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted at the GS-9 level. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree is required.
Additional InformationThis is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
