Laboratory Operations Director

The Laboratory Operations Director plays a critical role in ensuring that our laboratory operations run smoothly and efficiently. This individual is responsible for managing the daily functions of business operations, including but not limited to, extraction and analysis laboratories, sample management, and client services. They must coordinate with laboratory staff to meet clients' expectations and ensure turnaround times are met while maintaining data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Profitably manage the day-to-day function of SGS Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) laboratory operation in line with budget targets and Group objectives focusing on analysis quality and sample throughput.
- Ensure effective business operations, including housekeeping, human resources, safety, quality, security, and environmental practices.
- Demonstrate good leadership through effective planning, delegating, and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example.
- Manage staff and instrumentation resources to maximize sample throughput and ensure that turnaround times are met.
- Implement best practices in the operation to maximize operational efficiency and maintain data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards.
- Work with technical staff to resolve client service and technical issues.
- Motivate and hold employees accountable against specific performance objectives.
- Perform regular visits throughout the laboratory.
- Work in conjunction with functional support groups to ensure a proactive and planned approach to budgets, human resource planning, and the use of analytical instrumentation and information technology.
- Ensure evidence verifies meeting industry and customer expected standards.
- Manage people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively.
- Actively promote a strong culture of safe laboratory practices and maintenance of a safe working environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Science-related field or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of progressive laboratory management experience.
- Dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the Organization.
- Ability to follow instructions independently, with little or no supervision.
- Ability to design optimal solutions for problems and work with others to solve large complex problems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups within the organization or representing the organization.
- Excellent time management skills which include the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them.
- Knowledgeable about a wide range of Environmental Testing Protocols and Certifications.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
This position offers an estimated salary of $87,000-$100,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including paid vacation, sick time accrual, and participation in the Company's 401K Retirement Plan.
