About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned legal professional to join our team as a Senior Director, Legal Services. This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader to make a lasting impact and propel our legal services to new heights.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law, experience in supervising or leading others, and excellent communication skills. They will be able to explain complex legal situations compassionately and effectively to individuals in crisis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management:
    • Design and implement WJC's legal services program, developing program manuals, guides, and resources to support the legal team.
    • Coordinate with Community Advocates and Program Managers to deliver services to clients and community members.
  • Staff and Volunteer Management:
    • Direct, plan, and oversee the work of legal program staff, including supervision, evaluation, training, and team building.
    • Organize and participate in departmental meetings.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer attorneys.
    • Assist in staff recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Clients Representation:
    • Supervise legal representation, referrals, and client intakes.
    • Maintain a limited caseload to assist with legal representation and counsel.
  • Development and Reporting:
    • Communicate with funders as per funding agreements.
    • Participate in the design of new initiatives and funding opportunities.
    • Prepare periodic reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligible for licensure.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in supervising or leading others.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with proven ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Cultural Competency.
