POSITION SUMMARY:
St. John Knits is seeking a Senior Apparel Designer to infuse a contemporary and practical perspective into textile creation. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the final products are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. The selected candidate will spearhead the creative vision for both day and evening wear lines, managing the complete design journey from initial idea to final production. Reporting directly to the EVP and SVP of Design, the Senior Designer will work in close collaboration with various teams to produce innovative and market-ready products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design collections for day, evening, and knitwear, overseeing the process from concept through to development.
- Engage in critical meetings to enhance communication regarding design workflows and product challenges.
- Ensure that product fittings align with quality benchmarks.
- Conduct fittings and offer constructive feedback for necessary modifications.
- Remain informed on industry trends and contribute to forecasting future trends.
- Collaborate with other design teams to maintain product consistency.
- Develop fabrics, color palettes, prints, trims, and styling elements.
- Meet deadlines to align with organizational goals.
- Work closely with Design leadership throughout the product development phase.
- Assist in the creation of tech packs and foster relationships with sales and marketing departments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 6 to 10 years of experience in designing day, evening, and knitwear, preferably within the luxury women's fashion sector.
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design with a specialization in apparel.
- Comprehensive understanding of yarn types, qualities, machinery, and production processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Experience in sourcing and building networks within the fashion industry.
- Fluency in additional languages is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and time management abilities.
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
- Professional demeanor and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, attendance, and adherence to company values.
- Flexibility to adapt to business needs, including varied working hours.
