OBJECTIVE
The Cybersecurity Operations Specialist will manage all aspects related to the safeguarding of Information Technology assets at Northwood University. This role involves delivering technical solutions for IT security in partnership with the Associate Director of Security. It includes protecting the integrity of University systems, maintaining the confidentiality of electronic communications, and strengthening Northwood University's technological framework.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cybersecurity Operations Specialist encounters a variety of tasks, such as executing, overseeing, and managing diverse security policies, procedures, and technologies. This dynamic role entails ensuring adherence to regulations, formulating policies, coordinating security efforts among IT personnel, and performing hands-on technical responsibilities.
KEY FUNCTIONS
- Develop and implement security strategies, architectures, and technical requirements for all IT resources
- Assist in crafting security policies for University systems and computing devices
- Lead the acquisition, configuration, deployment, and monitoring of security-related hardware and software
- Stay informed about legislative and industry mandates in the IT security domain
- Effectively communicate security needs within the University community
- Ensure the proper design and functionality of data backup systems
- Support antivirus and malware defense mechanisms
- Secure network access points, including firewall and VPN systems
- Implement and manage SPAM filtering software and associated controls
- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits
- Stay updated on product vulnerabilities and establish patching protocols for security gaps
- Manage centralized logging systems
- Monitor security-related logs
- Assess security controls and risks associated with new system implementations
- Investigate and report electronic data findings for relevant requests
AUTHORITY
- Assist in directing and supervising IT security initiatives at Northwood University
- Engage in IT Management Team discussions and decision-making processes
- Address security issues across all IT domains

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, IT security, or a related field
- Understanding of operating systems, network standards, protocols, and architectures
- Experience with configuring firewall systems
- Preferred two years of experience in a related field
