About the Role

Amazon Services LLC - A57 is seeking a highly skilled System Development Engineer II to join our Automation Engineering team in North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, architecting, and implementing new and existing systems to drive business growth and improve customer experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Maintenance Excellence: Develop and implement best practices for maintenance, innovation, and process improvement to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Offer expert advice to senior leadership on maintenance and equipment end-of-life issues, using return on investment (ROI) analysis and other techniques.
  • Coordinate Work Activities: Plan and execute work activities for Control Systems Engineers to achieve goals and objectives of North America Customer Fulfillment teams.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with building Operations, Operations Engineering, Fulfillment Center Start-up Team, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) Software teams, Amazon Customer Excellence Systems (ACES) team, and Safety to optimize MHE systems and implement projects.
  • Understand and Troubleshoot MHE Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), personal computers (PCs), and industrial networks.
  • Monitor MHE Metrics: Partner with maintenance/operations to identify system performance issues and provide analysis across all operations.
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review: Implement process improvements or retraining to avoid future incidents.
  • Apply Subject Matter Expertise: Maximize building utilization of systems using material handling and electronic systems expertise.
  • Communicate Technical Issues: Explain production impacts and communicate technical issues and project timelines with building leadership, operations, and the maintenance team.
  • Assist with Skill Assessments: Help with skill assessments for Technical positions within building operation maintenance teams.
  • Handle Flexible Workload: Manage a flexible workload that may come from management or other operations.
  • Participate in Automation Engineering Conference Calls: Coordinate with AE central team to complete tasks required.
  • Provide Weekly Site Controls Reliability Information: Travel up to 40% to provide weekly site controls reliability information to AE central team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: Required
  • 5+ Years of Designing or Architecting Experience: Required
  • Experience with PLC and SCADA Programming: Required
  • Experience with ASI, Profibus, and Ethernet Protocol: Required
  • 5+ Years of Administrative Experience in Networking, Storage Systems, Operating Systems, and Hands-on Systems Engineering Experience: Preferred
  • 5+ Years of Experience in Control System Engineering: Preferred
