POSITION OVERVIEW:
The main objective of the Custodial Specialist role is to execute the daily operations of the Environmental Services Department as directed by your supervisor. Contribute to sustaining a clean and welcoming atmosphere for all residents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties
- Adhere to established cleaning schedules as closely as possible.
- Immediately report any accidents or incidents to your supervisor, regardless of severity.
- Coordinate daily cleaning services with nursing staff when conducting routine cleaning in resident areas.
- Return all found or unclaimed items to your supervisor.
Cleaning Responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Execute specific duties according to daily work plans.
- Sanitize and empty ashtrays on a daily basis.
- Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and heating/cooling units in resident rooms and common areas.
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures, ensuring no water marks remain.
- Wash windows and mirrors in resident rooms, common areas, and restrooms.
- Maintain floors through sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and disinfecting.
- Set up caution signs before commencing cleaning tasks.
- Vacuum, shampoo, and deodorize carpets as needed.
- Wash and dust walls and ceilings, ensuring cleanliness throughout.
- Remove dirt and debris from surfaces across the facility.
- Maintain cleanliness in hallways, stairways, and elevators.
- Dispose of waste properly and ensure trash receptacles are lined.
- Clean vacant rooms as directed.
- Ensure work areas are tidy and that tools and supplies are stored correctly.
- Implement isolation cleaning procedures in line with infection control protocols.
- Dispose of infectious waste in designated containers.
Safety and Sanitation Duties
- Comply with fire safety policies and procedures.
- Follow safety precautions while performing tasks and using equipment.
- Utilize safety gear when lifting or moving heavy items.
- Maintain assigned work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Keep workspaces free from hazards.
- Mix cleaning chemicals according to established guidelines.
- Report any hazardous conditions to your supervisor.
- Adhere to infection control and universal precautions.
- Use personal protective equipment when handling hazardous materials.
- Follow proper disposal procedures for personal protective equipment and waste.
- Coordinate cleaning procedures with nursing staff as necessary.
- Practice established handwashing techniques.
- Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with sanitation procedures.
Equipment and Supply Management
- Ensure adequate housekeeping supplies are available in storage areas.
- Notify supervisor of supply shortages.
- Report any malfunctioning lights or equipment promptly.
- Assist colleagues with heavy lifting as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of cleaning equipment.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly at the end of each shift.
Resident Rights and Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Knock before entering resident rooms.
- Respect residents' personal property and rights.
- Report any allegations of resident abuse or property misappropriation.
- Inform residents when their belongings need to be moved for cleaning.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The role involves working throughout the facility, with frequent movement and potential interruptions. Interaction with residents, staff, and visitors is common, requiring effective communication skills. The position may involve working beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, and may require participation in emergency response situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- No prior experience is necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is essential.
- Must be capable of making independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, and staff is crucial.
- Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to work well with others.
- Willingness to learn and implement new cleaning methods is important.
- Must be able to follow instructions regarding cleaning compounds and procedures.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace.
