Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at the City of Hendersonville. As a key member of our Water and Sewer department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks related to our water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair activities on water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, and facilities.
  • Conduct journey-level maintenance on heavy-duty and specialized water and sewer equipment, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing pumps and motors.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance, including checking lubrication on water and sewer pumps and motors.
  • May perform limited electrical troubleshooting and repairs under the direction and supervision of a City-approved Qualified Electrical Professional.
  • Maintain grounds surrounding pump stations and water storage tank sites and associated rights-of-way.
  • Troubleshoot problems and perform skilled plumbing and mechanical repairs.
  • Obtain materials, supplies, tools, and equipment using established purchasing procedures.
  • Keep records of work activities in Cityworks.
  • Serve on standby and answer after-hours calls for emergencies.
  • Assist in other divisions as needed.
  • Participate in the City's safety program and adhere to safety procedures and policies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled to skilled trades work, such as plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repair.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Possession of a NC Grade C Water Distribution System Operator certification, NC Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification, or NC Grade I Maintenance Technologist certification, or ability to obtain one or more within 18 months of employment.
Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise from motorized maintenance equipment, vibrations, atmospheric conditions, and oils, greases, fumes, dirt, sharps from metal and glass, and biting or stinging insects and possibly reptiles.

Employee must wear hearing/visual protection while performing most field work and may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
