Psychiatric Care Nurse

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect nursing care to patients within a behavioral health setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mental Health Assessment: Conduct comprehensive mental status evaluations during patient admissions and document ongoing assessments in progress notes, including any risk factors for self-harm or harm to others.
- Medication Management: Provide thorough education to patients regarding their psychiatric medications, ensuring understanding of their purpose and potential side effects, while conducting assessments to evaluate medication efficacy.
- Restraint Protocol: Lead and manage Code Green situations, ensuring patient safety and adherence to restraint policies, followed by timely assessments of patient well-being post-restraint.
- Therapeutic Environment: Maintain a safe and supportive milieu by setting appropriate behavioral limits and conducting safety assessments of the unit.
- Group Facilitation: Lead therapeutic groups, ensuring active participation and documenting patient involvement.
- Patient Rights Advocacy: Uphold and educate patients on their rights, particularly in cases of involuntary treatment or discharge against medical advice.
- Care Delivery: Implement nursing standards in patient assessments, treatment planning, and evaluations, ensuring that care is individualized and goal-oriented.
- Patient Education: Assess educational needs and provide relevant information regarding psychiatric conditions and treatment options.
- Leadership Responsibilities: As Charge Nurse, oversee patient care assignments, ensuring appropriate delegation and supervision of nursing staff.
- Effective Communication: Maintain clear and concise communication with the healthcare team, patients, and families, ensuring accurate documentation of care provided.
- Perform additional duties as required and adhere to compliance standards relevant to the nursing role.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Licensure: Valid nursing license in the state of Connecticut.
Experience: Minimum of zero to six months in a similar role.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform significant manual tasks and lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment: Exposure to various environmental factors typical of a healthcare setting.
