Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Rowan University. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our patients and physicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Duties:
    • Prepare exam rooms and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for tests and procedures.
    • Prepare patients for visits, including taking vital signs and medical histories.
    • Perform diagnostic tests, such as EKGs, blood work, and vision and hearing screenings.
    • Administer vaccinations and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, as directed by physicians.
    • Notify supervisors to order clinical supplies, including injectables and vaccines.
    • Assist physicians and nurses during examinations and procedures.
    • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for analysis.
    • Assist with minor surgical procedures and wound care.
    • Ensure patient records are accurate and up-to-date.
    • Document clinical information in patient charts or electronic medical records.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
    • Answer phone calls and address patient inquiries with a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
    • Handle billing and coding for insurance purposes.
    • Verify patient demographics and insurance information and update in billing system.
    • Verify patient insurance through insurance lists and/or via insurance websites.
    • Collect co-pays from patients.
    • Prepare deposits for pickup.
    • Retrieve referrals for appropriate visits and enter in to billing system.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and clinic areas.
    • Maintain inventory of front office supplies and notify supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
    • Sign in and out to the answering service daily, as directed.
    • Arrange for patient care services at other facilities, including surgeries and preadmission testing.
    • Call for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications, as required by patient insurers.
    • Coordinate requests for prescriptions from patients, provide chart to physician, telephone prescriptions at direction of physician, and make notation in patient chart with date and signature.
    • Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
    • Pull patient charts for next day and prepare chart.
    • Open and close offices, as assigned by supervisor. Activate and deactivate security system, as assigned by supervisor.
    • Maintain a professional and orderly office appearance.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification from a recognized certifying body, such as AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT.
  • Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of previous experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of pediatric vaccine schedules and experience administering pediatric vaccinations.
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system.
