Job Summary:

Central State Hospital is seeking a Human Services Care Specialist to provide library services to patients, staff, students, and volunteers. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The Human Services Care Specialist will be responsible for facilitating and co-facilitating active treatment with adults with serious mental illness, planning and facilitating evening and weekend activities, and documenting client attendance and progress according to hospital and departmental policy.

Responsibilities:

- Provide library services to patients, staff, students, and volunteers
- Facilitate and co-facilitate active treatment with adults with serious mental illness
- Plan and facilitate evening and weekend activities
- Document client attendance and progress according to hospital and departmental policy

Requirements:

- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Ability to drive/operate and escort clients by state cars, wheelchair-equipped bus, and 15-passenger van
- Ability to work irregular hours and weeks that include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience leading leisure-based groups with adults with mental illness in an inpatient setting
- Knowledge of benefits to a patient's well-being and recovery process

Working Conditions:

- Work in a psychiatric inpatient facility environment
- May be required to work in a maximum-security unit
