Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a professional who diagnoses, treats and prevents speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders by performing patient assessments, developing individual treatment plans, liaising with patient, family and healthcare professionals while administering therapy and monitoring progress.
The SLP may work in coordination with Occupational and Physical Therapists on the patients overall plan of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consult with patients to learn about their physical condition, deficits and goals
- Assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results
- Diagnose, treat and prevent speech, language and swallowing disorders
- Create treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of patients
- Perform screenings to detect voice or speech disorders
- Educate patients and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events
- Consult and collaborate with other healthcare professionals
- Document patient care history timely and accurately with great detail
- Report progress and current status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, teachers or medical professional
- Comply with all rules, regulations and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
