Role Summary:

The Home Health Aide (HHA) plays a crucial role in providing support to individuals in a residential setting. As a member of the care team, the HHA operates under the supervision of qualified staff, contributing to the ongoing development of their professional skills.

Key Responsibilities:

This list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the essential tasks that an HHA may be involved in:

  1. Personal Care:
  • Assist with bathing in various settings (bed, chair, tub, shower).
  • Support toileting needs.
  • Help with grooming tasks such as hair combing and shampooing.
  • Provide oral care, including denture maintenance.
  • Assist with bed-making and dressing.
  • Support mobility, including walking and transferring patients.
  • Assist with feeding and monitor dietary intake.
Specialized Care:
  • Accompany clients to medical appointments.
  • Assist with mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Provide reminders for medication administration.
Support for SADC Program:
  • Facilitate meal service, including breakfast and lunch.
  • Encourage participation in activities, both individual and group.
  • Assist participants in daily living activities, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Support community outings.
  • Help with self-administration of medications as per medical directives.
Enhancing Mental Engagement:

Encourage cognitive stimulation through conversation, games, and reading.

Reporting:

Communicate any changes in the participant's condition to the SADC Director.

Emotional Support:

Provide basic emotional and psychological support to participants.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of an approved training program for HHAs.
  2. Minimum age of 18, demonstrating maturity and emotional stability.
  3. Proficiency in English and the predominant language of the residents.
  4. Ability to follow instructions, record messages, and maintain simple records.
  5. Compassionate approach to service delivery.
  6. Good physical health, as documented in personnel records.
  7. Commitment to ongoing education, with a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training annually.
