School Psychologist II

We are seeking a highly skilled School Psychologist II to join our team at Gwinnett County Public Schools. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive arena assessments, consult with parents and school personnel, and coordinate the special education eligibility process for new students.
Key Responsibilities:
• Participate in comprehensive psycho-developmental arena assessments, reviewing referral information and coordinating plans for evaluation.
• Choose and administer appropriate assessment instruments, coordinating meetings to determine eligibility from arena results.
• Communicate test results and eligibility with parents, developing written reports as assigned by supervisor.
• Provide consultative services to parents and school personnel, identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies.
• Work with parents on areas of behavior, parenting skills, and basic understandings of educational, social, and medical needs of their children.
• Participate in parent education groups as needed, and participate with team members in regularly scheduled team meetings at school sites.
• Coordinate the special education eligibility process for new students, reviewing referral, medical, and background data.
• Communicate effectively with community agencies, developing a network of professional contacts with pediatricians, hospitals, and other agencies serving children and families in the program.
• Conduct and/or contribute in staff development initiatives, assisting in needs assessment and developing appropriate presentations.
• Participate in professional growth activities, participating in departmental and/or system staff development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Must hold or be eligible for a valid certificate in school psychology. National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) certification preferred.
• Completion of a state-approved certification preparation program in school psychology at the specialist degree level or higher, or completion of a master's degree plus 60 graduate semester hours/90 quarter hours of school psychology course work from a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)-approved program.
• Completion of successful year's internship in conjunction with public schools following conferred degree required. Three years experience as a preschool special education psychologist preferred.
• Ability to function effectively as a member of an assessment team; knowledge and interest in developmental assessment; ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and community agencies; knowledge of special education law, district, and state policies; ability to conduct psycho-developmental evaluations; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to effectively perform multiple tasks; and effective human relations skills.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
