Position Overview

The Radiation Therapy Physicist plays a crucial role in ensuring the precise and safe application of radiation in patient treatment plans. This position involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to optimize therapeutic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safe Radiation Delivery: Guarantees the effective administration of radiation to meet the diagnostic or therapeutic objectives outlined in the patient care strategy.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with dosimetrists and radiation oncologists to formulate comprehensive radiation therapy treatment strategies.
  • Protocol Development: Establishes and oversees protocols and policies to maintain accurate patient dosimetry.
  • Equipment Testing: Conducts and supervises testing and calibration of imaging devices to ensure optimal performance.
  • Shielding Design: Creates and implements suitable shielding designs, conducts regular surveys, and performs routine exposure assessments.
  • System Monitoring: Evaluates the appropriate utilization of radiation therapy treatment planning systems, focusing on dose optimization software characteristics, precision in patient and beam geometry, and the relevance of dose calculation algorithms in various clinical contexts, including heterogeneity corrections.
Qualifications
  • Must be board certified or board eligible as a Therapeutic Radiologic Physicist by The American Board of Radiology (ABR) or The American Board for Medical Physics (ABMP).
Work Schedule
  • Day shift with a 5x8 schedule.
Additional Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
