Job Summary:

Ambition Preparatory Charter School is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, the Transportation Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, as well as on field trips.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff during transportation
  • Conduct daily inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition
  • Operate the bus in accordance with road and safety regulations
  • Follow procedures to ensure no student is left alone on the bus without adult supervision
  • Keep the bus clean and free of debris
  • Inventory and report on bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment
  • Attend transportation in-service training and other continuing education opportunities
  • Respond to accidents and emergencies in accordance with written procedures

Requirements:

  • Current Commercial Driver's License Class B with a school bus endorsement
  • Successful experience as a School Bus Driver preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass a School Bus Driver's physical, including a drug test
  • Must be able to comply with a background check, including fingerprints, as required by the State of Mississippi
  • Valid Mississippi driver's license
  • Exemplification of the character values: zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials
  • Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs
  • Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies

Working Conditions:

This job involves sitting for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing. Able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. Random drug tests may be performed.
