Overview

The Electrical Estimating Director at William Charles Electric oversees the electrical estimating department, ensuring accurate and timely cost estimation for high voltage construction projects. This role involves managing estimating resources, coordinating bids, and developing best practices while mentoring team members. The individual is also responsible for enhancing communication across departments and implementing organizational standards for estimating activities.

The candidate will be responsible for the management of the electrical estimating department and its personnel, performing day-to-day functions for the firm's estimating activities such as assigning estimating resources to multiple estimating pursuits, coordinating pre-bid attendance as needed, bid management, cost databases, estimating software, implementing/improving estimating practices, and perform those additional roles specifically outlined in the Managerial Duties section that follows.

In this role, the individual should ensure that William Charles Electric employees have the knowledge, training, and tools required to successfully estimate, sell, and construct projects.

The successful candidate must have superior communication, management, and organization development skills. They should be able to work with other department managers to meet corporate results/initiatives and ensure that employees are familiar with procedures, forms, instructions needed for communication with other departments, including familiarity with corporate limits such as the Delegation of Authority Matrix. The candidate must develop, follow, and enforce standard policy and procedures for employees. They must communicate and enforce the Employee Handbook as well as track time (weekly payroll, vacation, sick).

The Electrical Estimating Director will work closely with the Preconstruction Manager in the development of direct report employees, including both growth opportunities as well as corrective actions when needed. Additionally, they will provide monthly reports of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which include types of estimates and values of estimates being produced. This position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the firm's estimating activities, including pre-bid attendance, bid management, cost databases, estimating software, and implementing/improving all estimating practices.
  • Conduct/attend project meetings/huddles as needed to communicate project requirements.
  • Establish timelines and estimating goals for effective and timely submittals.
  • Evaluate employee performance and work with the Preconstruction Manager to establish career development and growth plans for employees.
  • Closely work with Construction Operations and other company executives to help effectuate the firm's strategic planning effort.

Qualifications:
Proven high-level construction estimating experience as well as leadership and mentoring skills. Proven management experience, a history of leading, teaching, developing, and mentoring others successfully. Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams. Possess an understanding of contractual requirements, conceptual estimating, design drawings, and project specifications. Familiar with the industry's leading estimating software. Understand risk assessment analysis and have estimating abilities in multiple markets and geographic locations. B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent progressive work experience with 7 + years of estimating on construction projects or 10+ years of experience in lieu of education.
