The Risk Manager will spearhead the implementation and enhancement of quality and risk management initiatives within the organization. This role is pivotal in monitoring patient outcomes and associated risks throughout the treatment process, as well as conducting thorough reviews and audits of risk management practices within the facility.
Furthermore, the Risk Manager will oversee, guide, and manage activities related to the collection, examination, processing, and archiving of medical records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To excel in this position, the individual must effectively fulfill each essential duty, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Oversee performance metrics in critical areas such as clinical care, quality assurance, and service excellence.
- Design and execute the organization's risk management strategy to align with its mission and strategic objectives while adhering to applicable federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
- Provide education and training to leadership and staff regarding risk management programs and their respective roles in these initiatives.
- Guide and support departments in the development of risk management strategies.
- Gather, assess, and maintain data related to risk factors.
- Conduct investigations and analyze root causes; identify trends and implement corrective measures as necessary.
- Actively engage in or facilitate committees focused on risk management, safety, and quality enhancement.
- Perform random audits of patient records to identify risk areas, including but not limited to, the admission/readmission audit tool.
- Assist in the onboarding of skilled residents to the facility.
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards.
- Support scheduling of physician appointments.
- Handle incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with daily operational tasks as required.
- Identify and rectify inaccuracies in records following established protocols.
- Support charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
- May be required to participate in an on-call rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

- Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) and standard medical tools.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledge of legal aspects of clinical practice and professional standards.
Experience:
- Significant supervisory experience in a geriatric environment.
- A minimum of one year’s experience in risk management, quality improvement, health information management, healthcare administration, patient care, or business management is preferred.
- Experience in geriatric care is advantageous.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a registered nursing degree.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- CPR certification.
- Completion of continuing education as required to maintain licensure.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
- May require managerial guidance in exceptional circumstances.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Good hearing ability.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
- Work typically conducted in a standard long-term care facility; well-lit and temperature-controlled.
- Frequent exposure to above-average conversational noise.
- Position may require flexible hours, unscheduled overtime, or occasional weekend work.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Travel may be necessary.
