Wildland Firefighter/Ranger Job Description

Are you passionate about working outdoors and making a difference in your community?

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Wildland Firefighter/Ranger to join our team at the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to wildland fires and other emergencies in a timely and effective manner.
  • Operate heavy equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist with maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Participate in forestry-related services and programs.
  • Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
  • Inspect property to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Operate fire engines and hoselays.
  • Perform upkeep and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Carry out the implementation of fire prevention campaigns.
  • Operate commercial class transport and medium to heavy duty crawler tractor in wildland fire suppression and construction of pre-suppression fire breaks.
Requirements:
  • Valid CDL license or learners permit with the ability to obtain a CDL license within 12 weeks of hire.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies.
