Job Summary

Indiana University is seeking a skilled Broadcast Technical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our radio and television services department, you will be responsible for setting up, controlling, and monitoring all television broadcast, cable, and satellite signals broadcasting programs to the viewing audience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine technical tasks for monitoring broadcast master control operations and programming services of WTIU-TV, WFIU-FM on-air programming, along with daily TV and Radio service operations.
  • Monitor Broadcast program, cable, and satellite signals delivery to the viewing audience, as well as corrective action, should problems develop.
  • Participate in a variety of standard broadcast and closed-circuit operations, including set up, operation, and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, and optical equipment in the origination, transmission, reception, and recording of audio and video signals.
  • Focus on operation and production engineering of WTIU/WFIU direct on-air program monitoring, The Media School (student) production, recorded productions, remote, field, and post productions, instructional productions, and Media School lab and studio productions.
  • Design, install, and perform routine and corrective maintenance on other radio and television broadcast quality production systems.
  • Perform basic routine and corrective maintenance on broadcast operation equipment.
  • Assist maintenance engineers in installation of new broadcast equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the Television Master Control (TMC). Route broadcast signals to campus, uplinks sites, and other state destinations.
  • Assist in training of temporary and SD (Schedule Directors) workers.
  • Act as operational resource on technical operations and on questions regarding policies and procedures.
  • Review all recorded media from satellite and IPBS interconnection, and perform video dubs including internet files received from PBS, other Indiana PBS stations, and local FTP (File Transfer Protocol) sites.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in electronics, electronic telecommunications, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in field production and computer-based editing.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work shifts during nights, weekends, holidays, and special events. This role requires occasional moving or handling of equipment weighing 10 to 50 pounds and the ability to ascend/descend ladders. The position requires manual dexterity in the set-up and operation of equipment plus the installation of cabling, connectors, and other items. The role requires concentration on multiple program streams and viewing computer screens for extended periods of time.

Advertised Salary: $37,232.00 per year
