Position Summary

The Marine Service Technician will be tasked with maintaining and repairing various mechanical and electrical systems in boats, yachts, and other aquatic vessels. A genuine interest in the marine sector, along with a solid understanding of engine mechanics and electrical systems, is essential. This role involves working independently across different seasons, whether at the workshop, off-site, or at marinas. The technician will report directly to the Lead Technician.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily maintenance, including diagnostics and repairs on gas engines, engine drives, plumbing, sanitation, fuel systems, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Employ problem-solving skills to test, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of mechanical systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes and winterizations.
  • Carry out mechanical and safety inspections of vessels.
  • Receive assignments from the Lead Technician and develop execution strategies.
  • Install new systems, upgrade existing ones, conduct operational tests, and recommend modifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Document all inspections and repairs, including testing results.
  • Regularly manage inventory of supplies, tools, and parts to meet client demands.
  • Strive for high performance and productivity levels.
  • Engage with clients to address specific technical inquiries while delivering outstanding customer service.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical repair position is required.
  • Familiarity with boat-specific systems such as HVAC, AC/DC electrical, and sanitation is essential.
  • Proficiency in operating a diverse range of boats is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Candidates should possess advanced skills in at least one area of the service department, including:
    • Inboard and I/O gas engine diagnostics and repair.
    • Outboard engine diagnostics and repair.
    • Marine Diesel diagnostics and repair.

Soft Skills

Preferred Qualifications

Marine Repair Certification & Training from accredited institutions is advantageous.

Work Environment

  • The work environment typically has a medium to loud noise level. Tasks may involve moderate dirtiness and varying temperatures throughout the seasons. Outdoor work is a regular expectation, including tasks on the water and docks.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and/or move weights up to 50 lbs. or more, depending on the task. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Candidates must be able to kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods, as well as climb stairs. Frequent and repetitive use of hands, wrists, and fingers is necessary.
