Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Treasurer to join our team at Trempealeau County, WI. As a key member of our financial services team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of county receipts and disbursements, providing exceptional customer service to taxpayers and other stakeholders, and performing various financial duties in the absence of the Treasurer.
Key Responsibilities- Receives and records tax payments, prepares daily bank deposits, and ensures accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Provides information to the public, real estate brokers, attorneys, financial institutions, and other stakeholders regarding department records, tax bills, and real estate tax process.
- Signs and distributes payroll checks, voucher checks, and other financial documents as required.
- Monitors the county's cash flow and liquidity standing to ensure sufficient funds are available to satisfy checks drawn on the accounts.
- Maintains daily account balances, balances bank statements with department records, and lists and maintains records for outstanding checks.
- Enters and balances municipal payments, maintains a list of special assessments, special charges, and special taxes payments, and balances to be paid to municipalities.
- Prepares and mails lottery credit notifications to property owners, enters credit information to computer records, and monitors property owner's lottery credit eligibility.
- Prepares and mails delinquent tax bills, opens and processes mail, and administers the county dog license program.
- Assists in instructing and monitoring temporary/seasonal department employees, prepares various monthly reports, and performs duties of the Treasurer in their absence.
- Associate degree in Accounting and two years of accounting or finance experience with public contact, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, determine consequences, and identify and select alternatives.
- Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record, and transcribe data and information, classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data.
- Ability to persuade, convince, and/or train others, including the ability to act in a lead worker capacity, advise, and interpret how to apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations.
- Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, communicate orally and in writing with taxpayers, County Board Supervisors, taxing jurisdiction clerks/treasurers, assessors, real estate brokers, appraisers, other county treasurers, County Clerk, vendor representatives, computer consultants, attorneys, financial institutions, title companies, Judges, and other County Departments.
