Madison College is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate to teach part-time courses for the Applied Biology and Biotechnology program. As a Part-Time Instructor, you will play a vital role in helping students succeed and positively impact the community.

Job Responsibilities
  • Teach adult students at the technical diploma and associate degree levels, as well as provide continuing education and customized training for business and industry.
  • Develop learner-centered instructional strategies, collaborative curriculum, and assessments for continuous improvement.
  • Report to the Associate Dean in the Technologies and Trades.

Essential Duties
  • Plan, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.
  • Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
  • Research, develop, and administer skills assessments before, during, and after courses and services with an emphasis on evaluating student performance.
  • Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  • Work closely with the College's Business and Industry Services division to support the training needs of business partners and/or clients.
  • Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  • Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
  • Attend division, department, and advisory committee meetings.
  • Develop and implement strategies aimed at the retention of students of color, female students, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with disabilities.
  • Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation, and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.
  • Project management work experience.
  • Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.
  • Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to effectively interact with business and industry to establish partnerships and address needs.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a bio-science field.
  • Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of related work experience in a laboratory setting.
  • OR
  • Tested/equivalent experience in a field closely related:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related degree in Life Sciences.
  • Five (5) years or 10,000 hours of related work experience.
