The Cloud Operations Specialist is responsible for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of extensive Hadoop cloud infrastructures.

Requirements

Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics is highly preferred.
  • Certification as a Hadoop/Cloud System Administrator or a comparable Cloud System/Service Certification is mandatory.
Required Skills/Experience
  • Experience in scripting with languages such as Bash, Perl, or Python.
  • Proficient understanding and working knowledge of core components of the Linux operating system, including user and group account management in LDAP, and configuration of DHCP, DNS, and TFTP.
  • Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting large-scale cloud computing systems, with familiarity in distributed systems for data storage and retrieval, such as Apache's Hadoop, Accumulo, Cassandra, or Scality and Swift object stores.
  • Ability to work effectively within a mission-focused team structure, adhere to SOPs, communicate clearly, accept constructive feedback, and receive technical guidance from senior technical resources.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and utilize senior resources to enhance your technical foundation within a team setting.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently on complex tasks and mentor junior technical staff.
  • Proven ability to plan, communicate, lead, and manage intricate technical tasks requiring collaboration with multiple teams.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or SALT.
  • Understanding of the complete Linux PXE/Network provisioning process, including familiarity with Anaconda Kickstart configurations, RAID controller utilities, TFTP images, and disk detection scripts.
  • Experience in accessing and troubleshooting systems remotely for hardware diagnosis and repair, including VNC, serial over LAN interfaces, and IPMI, as well as BIOS-level configuration.
  • Familiarity with corporate architecture and knowledge of OpenSSL and Java keystore manipulation.
  • Experience troubleshooting commodity hardware platforms, including previous work with SGI/HP hardware.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • Experience in managing and monitoring large Hadoop clusters.
  • Advanced knowledge of SSH tunneling and protocols, including dynamic SOCKS proxies and other SSH-based utilities.
  • Basic understanding of low-level network concepts, including VLANs, port channel bonding, and layer 2/layer 3 switch interactions.
  • Familiarity with software load balancers for large-scale web service implementations, including HAproxy and nginx.
  • Experience with Kubernetes orchestration services and Docker images.
  • Experience with log aggregation and search tools, including ElasticSearch, Logstash, Filebeats, Grafana, and Rsyslog.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with peers and senior personnel.
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and clients, which may involve delivering presentations.
  • Occasionally needs to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery.
