Job Summary

The Advanced EMT is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the out-of-hospital setting, adhering to NYS DOH certification standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure ambulance cleanliness and stock levels through regular inspections and pre-run checks.
  • Determine the type of response required based on dispatch information and weather conditions.
  • Assess patient needs and provide appropriate emergency care according to NYS BLS and AAREMS ALS Protocols.
  • Direct and assist crew members with patient handling, treatment, lifting, carrying, and transport.
  • Report patient assessments and care both verbally and documented in PCR.
  • Secure patient information and render care according to written physician orders during inter-facility transfers.
  • Utilize proper radio procedures per county and department policy.
  • Monitor patient throughout contact.
  • Ensure ambulance readiness post-runs.
  • Integrate with other agencies when necessary.
  • Adhere to department and hospital policies, procedures, and infection control programs.
  • Maintain professional conduct and courteous interaction with patients, family/bystanders, other agency personnel, crew members, and hospital staff.
  • Ensure ALS equipment and supplies are service-ready pre- and post-runs.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • NYS EMT Intermediate, Critical Care, or Paramedic certification; current BLS; current ACLS and PALS (or equivalent) for CC or P; valid/clean NYS driver's license; EVOC or equivalent preferred.
  • Reading and writing competence.
