- Provide instruction to individuals with permanent disabilities on the effective use of adaptive devices, including wheelchairs and orthotic supports.
- Design and create specialized equipment tailored for home or workplace use.
- Develop computer-aided assistive technologies.
- Coordinate job placements, assess work environments, plan activities, and monitor patient progress; collaborate with patients and employers to adapt work settings for successful task completion.
- Offer guidance to family members and caregivers on safe and effective caregiving techniques.
- Assess patient progress and compile detailed reports outlining advancements.
- Perform additional duties as required based on the specific work environment.
Rehabilitation Specialists work across various settings, including outpatient facilities, hospitals, and long-term care institutions. The role may require flexible hours to accommodate patient needs. This position is physically demanding, requiring prolonged periods of standing, as well as frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting of heavy equipment. Proper body mechanics and lifting techniques are essential to prevent injury.
Education and Credentials:
- Graduation from an accredited rehabilitation program.
- Valid professional license in good standing with the relevant state licensing authority.
- Demonstrated cognitive skills pertinent to the role.
