Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the laboratory testing process, performing pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing procedures. This includes recognizing appropriate and inappropriate selection of lab tests, correlating lab results to patients' clinical conditions, and possessing scientific knowledge to evaluate quality control, instrument, and result data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing according to KPWA Laboratory procedures.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Access specimens, enter results, and retrieve information using computer data entry and retrieval systems.
  • Provide technical resource support, resolving problems and answering technical questions.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities and test method evaluations, validations, and implementation.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in a laboratory science or meets qualifications in CLIA, High School Diploma, or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Medical Lab Technician Certificate within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum one (1) year recent clinical laboratory experience as an MLT.
  • Two (2) years of generalist experience as an MLT.
  • Certified as an MLT preferred by date of hire/transfer.
