Head Start Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Start Teacher to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities, making social service referrals, and sharing responsibility for parent involvement in the program.

1. Develop and implement educational programming that aligns with the program philosophy and meets the social/emotional and developmental needs of each child.
2. Teach child development principles to parents, volunteers, and staff, and apply these principles to programming.
3. Maintain a safe, organized, and clean classroom environment, and ensure the organization and cleanliness of all classrooms.
4. Analyze observations and assessments to plan for each child's individual learning plan.
5. Write individual learning plans (ILPs) for each child based on observational notes, the developmental continuum, and parent input.
6. Communicate effectively with children using developmentally appropriate means.
7. Assist with maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment.

1. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with experience teaching preschool-aged children preferred.
2. Knowledge and skills in early childhood development, including the Office of Head Start Performance Standards.
3. Knowledge of various service resources in the community.
4. Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and childcare licensing requirements.
5. Knowledge of local resources, languages, and customs.

The successful candidate must have a current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearance, and a completed School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) prior to hire date.

The physical demands of this role include sitting for extended periods, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling 50 pounds, and ability to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies.
