GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Cafe at Kirkwood operates as part of a culinary team that also manages The Class Act Restaurant and catering services for The Hotel at Kirkwood. The Caf aims to provide fresh, high-quality ingredients and diverse menus to students, staff, and visitors. The Catering Assistant collaborates with the catering coordinator to ensure exceptional service for all catering clients. Responsibilities include organizing delivery schedules, confirming orders, managing billing, and setting up food and beverage service.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver prompt and courteous food and beverage service for the Catering Department.
  • Engage positively with all customers, staff, and guests.
  • Organize and distribute grab-and-go items.
  • Maintain an orderly inventory of supplies.
  • Assist in the opening operations of The Caf.
  • Uphold high service standards during meal functions.
  • Support various business needs, including cashiering and food preparation.
  • Assist with catering events at The Hotel.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Address customer concerns and communicate with the Catering Coordinator.
  • Support the Catering Coordinator in securing new business opportunities.
  • Assist in billing processes for customers.
  • Plan and execute daily delivery schedules.
  • Participate in team meetings and ensure organized storage areas.
  • Maintain compliance with required training.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Foster an inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds.
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and health regulations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires:
  • Frequent standing, walking, and using hands.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
The work environment includes exposure to kitchen conditions, including noise and temperature variations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education.
  • Valid Iowa Driver's License.
  • Two years of experience in a hospitality setting.
