Role Overview:

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in delivering direct patient assistance as assigned by a registered nurse and in collaboration with other healthcare team members. Responsibilities include aiding patients with daily living activities, personal hygiene, nutrition, and various treatments and procedures.

Under the guidance of the RN, the Healthcare Support Specialist performs essential care tasks and related services tailored to meet the personal needs, comfort, and safety of a designated patient demographic. It is crucial for the Specialist to exhibit knowledge and skills pertinent to patient care that align with the age of the patients served. Successful completion of job-specific training and competency assessments is required, along with adherence to performance standards. The Specialist must uphold patient rights in all facets of care and report any concerns to the appropriate personnel. Leadership is demonstrated through effective coordination of unit resources and activities.

The Healthcare Support Specialist is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of the RN, which delivers or assists with fundamental patient care needs, treatments, and procedures. Communication of significant findings or observations to the RN is essential while providing care and comfort. Support for professional staff in basic life support principles is also part of the role.

Unit Information:

The Orthopedic Surgical Unit is a specialized 32-bed facility located on the 5th floor of our advanced hospital. This unit is dedicated to delivering high-quality, innovative care for patients undergoing hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgeries, as well as addressing a range of medical-surgical needs.

All rooms are private, equipped with modern amenities for both patients and their families. A centrally located therapy gym enhances patient recovery. Our interprofessional team, which includes registered nurses, clerical staff, patient care specialists, physical and occupational therapists, case managers, and social workers, is committed to providing outstanding care. Additionally, a dedicated medical management team supports our joint replacement patients. Qualifications:
Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers is required within six months of hire.

Education and Experience:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and candidates must be at least 18 years old. Previous experience in patient care or as a nursing assistant is preferred.

Completion of required PCT training programs is necessary.

Familiarity with the EPIC Medical Record System is advantageous.
